Rugs help decor and beautify floors thanks to their patterns that will bring joy within a room or a playroom.
1/ Rugs for children: a unique world and a play space
Within a child's room, a rug can be considered as a key element, with important dimensions and taking pride of place, it will be the decoration element that your children will like the most! Indeed, in order to decorate a child's room, many rugs with different patterns exist: bearing the image of their favourite cartoon, representing animals or a safari atmosphere, or even some car racing tracks or with a completely colourful pattern, rugs can easily become the centre of their imagination and room, place where they will spend most of their time.
Genuine decoration elements, rugs give life and the beat for the room's decoration. However, they depend of the rest of the room: they must always be adapted to the atmosphere of the child's room. Their colours must match the ones of the walls or of many decorative objects that will be associated to the rug's colours or theme.
2/ A play space
Within a child's room, a rug has a particular function. More than just a decorative element, the latter represent a comfortable and cosy game space for your child, which will enjoy sitting there and develop his or her imagination.
How can you make this space more comfortable and fun? Your child's game space should be ideally situated aside, in a corner of the room totally devoted to this activity. Going along with a toy box and some baskets, several cushions can be added to the rug including some cushions made for sitting on the floor. This will create a cosy space within your child's room. In a big space, you can multiply the rugs by associating a main rug to one or two rugs of smaller dimensions that will bring an “island” effect, more fun for your child.
However, if your child's room is smaller and there is not enough space in order to create a play space aside, laying your rug at the bottom of the bed will be a great solution too. The cushions could then be arranged on the bed or inside a drawer and could be brought out when your child will be playing on the rug. Otherwise, you can opt for a “carpet” effect rug which, thanks to its dimensions could cover the majority of the room. For sure, his or her little feet will be kept warm!
3/ Choose a rug adapted to your child
You should also choose a rug adapted to your child's needs. If your child is for example in the age of playing with small car toys, a shag carpet is maybe not a great idea! You may rather choose a low pile carpet. In the same way, if your child tends to have allergies, you should avoid shag carpets since they catch dust and increase risks linked to allergies.
Furthermore, rugs must be chosen depending on the personality and the age of your child. For a baby, you may opt for a light coloured rug that will make your baby's room a peaceful place and will create a happy and soft atmosphere. You should notably choose a sheepskin rug, which, soft and thick will give to your child and yourself the impression of floating on a cloud. For babies, some activity mats that are thick and look like bed mats exist: these could replace the “games space” of older kids.
4 / Rugs for children: a multifunction rug
As was already mentioned, besides serving a function of decoration, rugs for children are also operational. Indeed, for children, they represent a game element. But more than this, they have other indispensable qualities.
In order to play and be more comfortable and protected from the cold floor, your child will be better sitting on a rug. Children spend most of their time on the floor: babies when not yet walking, crawl, which enable them to be stimulated. When growing up, children continue playing and discovering by laying on the floor. Thus, placing a rug on the floor is ideal for them to discover and play in a comfortable and smooth environment without being threatened by coldness!
Furthermore, they are very functional for another thing: they help reducing the noise, they are thus as ideal for parents dreaming of calmness and neighbours!
Rugs are thus an ideal element that will support your child with his or her imagination and discovery of the world. It is why it is also important to choose a rug easy to maintain by buying quality materials: you may opt for a rug made of wool or polypropylene for example. For what regards maintenance, these materials must be prioritised since they are more resistant: polypropylene is more resistant to stains and is anti-dust-mite. Furthermore, wool is less allergenic than other materials and resist to humidity. Choosing a washable rug can also be a good idea because it will enable you to keep it on long term.
