1/ A SHORT HISTORY OF THE DESIGN STOOL

Until the 1960s, the stools had a simple and useful function: to provide an extra seat that was easy to move and store. However, being often made of wood, stools can sometimes be cumbersome.

In 1960, Henri Massenet specialized in plastic fishing equipment developed the idea of a plastic stool that would be even more practical since one could store material, and light. So he create the famous TAM-TAM stool in the shape of 8. Being cheap, this stool sells quite well until the day Brigitte Bardot is photographed sitting on the TAM-TAM and thus explodes sales.

Today, the stool designed by Henri Massenet is a very famous design piece that can even be found in some museums. In the 1960s , Henri Massenet launched the trend of the design stool that will no longer be revisited since in different shapes, colors and even in varying sizes! Thus the first design stools inspired by the high stools of Parisian brasseries take place among the greatest designers and are found more and more in our interiors!

In recent decades, the high design stool has become a trendy accessory found in the most chic and luxurious interiors, ranging from the United States to France. Today they come in all styles, so you can find high-design stools but also industrial or Scandinavian for example. The materials used are very diverse (metal, wood, plastic, fabric...) and the models more or less original.

2/ AMERICAN CUISINE

With the arrival of the great trend of American open kitchens, we had to adapt our kitchens and living rooms to the changes coming with it. Now we have enough space to accommodate a central island or bar in the middle of our kitchen. Thus, there is no longer a boundary between the dining room where your guests are waiting for you and the kitchen. But in addition, there is a new meeting point, the central island.

It is therefore more and more common to find high chairs arranged around the latter or the bar in order to welcome his guests as close to you during the aperitif for example. 3/ CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DESIGN BAR STOOL

A bar stool does not quite fit the traditional definition of the stool. Originally, a stool was characterized by a seat resting on three or four feet, small in size and easy to carry. However, the evolution of the stool has led us to bar stools characterized by a size greater than 75cm that are positioned around a high table, a bar or even a central island. The latter are often immobile, that is, unlike traditional stools, they occupy a fixed place. To be comfortably installed, it is ideal to position a 75 cm high stool near a table of 110 to 115cm.

Moreover, for comfort, the design stools quickly have a backrest when they are used daily. Small folders covering only the lower back are also common because they allow you to store the stool high under the table after use while keeping the comfort of the back when sitting on it.

Finally, the designers have also developed high chairs and stools with adjustable sizes which promotes multifunctionality and allows everyone to adjust it according to their own comfort. The bar chairs and high stools have thus become fixed and comfortable seating keeping the spirit of the traditional stool.

As for the favorite materials of the design style, we advise you to choose quality and easy-to-maintain materials such as metal or faux leather. The design is a style that promotes minimalism, so opt for simplicity and choose stools with clean lines and round or graphic shapes but also sober colors (black, white, gray ...) or even very flashy colors for more originality like red or yellow. 4/ SHARE DIFFERENTLY
