Actively operational, low stools will always be the piece of furniture that takes pride of place in your interior's decoration. What is a design stool?
Stool are originally characterised by their height which is inferior to 5 cm, their seat with 3 or 4 legs with no chair back nor armrests. Today, stools come in various shapes: some high stools exist some stools with only one leg or other with chair backs exist too. However, design stool, for what regards the height are still loyal to the original definition even if the models are all really originals nowadays.
1/ Stool's story
Stools as a trendy element gained some importance within Louis XIV's French Court. Indeed, people having the honour of sitting with the royal family were invited to do so when a stool was presented to them. It was made of golden wood and a padded and soft seated, these were only offered to important court's people!
Today, stools are coming back as a trend and will delight your interior by bringing a casual touch and a vibrant energy! They come in various models, from the more traditional to some really flamboyant ones: you'll find one that fits you for sure.
2/ Permanent seats
Stools are more and more used as permanent seats. These are today often placed around a dinner table, a coffee table or a couch and are not likely to be moved around. Indeed, they are just as chairs, considered as stationary and have been assigned to a place.
These stools are thus often different from side stools since they are not destined to be moved around frequently and are anchored to their place and will sometimes look like a chair. Indeed, those permanent stools are more visible because they are often composed of a back chair and a patted seat in order to bring more comfort. However, they are still a bit different from chairs because of their height that is inferior to 5 cm and because of their legs. Often, design stools have 3 or 4 legs, but it is more common to find one foot stools.

3/ Side seats
Side stools are the ones we all know about. They are simple and operational and can adapt to any king of room or needs. Versatile and very light, they can be carried in different rooms for different needs as many times as wish to!
They are very nice during appetizer because they help welcome many guests around the coffee table and are quick and easy to put away afterwards! Indeed, stools can be stackable, sometimes even foldable and are light. Thus, they do not take much space and can be moved easily around the house!Furthermore, they are very trendy since they bring a warm and casual aspect by giving an industrial or “factory” atmosphere to the room: most of them are of a simple and rough style.
4/ Where to place them?
If you wish to keep some stools as permanent in your decoration, you should know that they can be placed all around the house.
Within the dining room, you can opt for keeping them around the table as permanent stools. However, you must adapt the height of your stool with the table: you should keep a distance from 2 to 25 cm between the seat and the underside of the table
Moreover, within a living room, you can totally position a stool near the couch or the coffee table in order to create a harmony between those elements and bring an extra seat or a stool as a side table!
Finally, stools can also be situated insede a room, on a side of the bed or in front of a desk for example.
5/ As a decorative object
Stools can serve other functions than the function of a seat you can also use them as a decorative object! Since it is not cumbersome, this decoration element will have a major asset for bringing charm to your interior. However, you should choose a simple and traditional one in order not to create a senseless decoration!
You could also use it as a shelf for plants and place it in unusual places such as a bathroom for example. You can also use it as a bedside table and lay some books on it. As mentioned before, you can also give it a function of side table within a living room where you could lay some candles or a pretty vase. Finally, stools go well along with entrances where it could serve the function of a pedestal table!
6/ Which stool model ?
Finally, if you're thinking about what model to choose, you should consider the following remarks :
Do you wish to buy a permanent or side stool? If you are more likely to buy a stool, which will be permanently present in your decoration, you should think about where you will place it. If the latter is going to be positioned around the table, think about matching it to your dining room's decoration thanks to colours or materials reminding for example.
